Janet’s Journey started in 2013, when she was laid off from her job that she had been doing for the last ten years.
Not only had Janet lost her job, but she also lost her friends and her confidence. She was frustrated, confused, and lonely. As a result, she started attending networking events and heard stories of other people finding their passions and purposes. As a woman born in the 50’s, Janet had never really invested in herself and her passions – she was raised in a society where women were supposed to get married, have children, and scrub the countertops at least once a week.
Janet decided that enough was enough and that from now on she would live by the phrase “It’s never too late to say yes”. Since then, Janet has been fiercely educating herself, she has written and published two books, coauthored two others, ran multiple 5K’s, was a TV Host in a 12 episode series, nannied twins, continues to create reusable feminine hygiene kits with her own thread and needle, volunteers with homeless organizations, and has been a main stage speaker sharing her message of “It’s never too late to say yes”.
Most recently Janet completed her first ever obstacle course race with the help of 13 friends all wearing pink, glitter, and unicorn costumes (the theme was her request!) just a few days after her 68th birthday.
I was lucky enough to be a part of this friend group, and I ran the race with my camera in hand to capture this wonderful day in Janet’s Journey.
